In 1945, Frank Nichol and John Moffatt formed a partnership over the Nichol’s kitchen table in Long Beach, California. As Project Managers for key Southern California naval installations during World War II, they had established a reputation as creative engineers who delivered buildable designs. During their distinguished careers, they sought to advance the quality of waterfront engineering, nurturing a firm that would reach far beyond the waterfront.

Today, the firm is headquartered in Long Beach, California and operates throughout North America, Europe, Latin America and the Pacific Rim, Moffatt & Nichol’s practice has expanded to support the larger demands of the goods movement industry globally. Today, with a portfolio of more than 7,000 projects, the firm provides clients worldwide with customized service and a level of excellence that have become an industry hallmark in six key practice areas: ports and harbors; coastal, environmental and water resources; urban waterfronts and marinas; transportation, bridge & rail; inspection and rehabilitation; and energy. These areas of expertise are complemented by an in-house commercial consulting group with maritime and logistics analysts specializing in the acquisition and merger of marine infrastructure assets, intermodal transportation systems and the revenue forecasts associated with the movement of freight.
