Oil & Gas Services with LNG Facilities

Energy ------- Oil Gas ------- Moffatt & Nichol provides comprehensive planning, design, and program management services for projects ranging from major interchanges and freeways to local streets and rural highways.  Our rail and transit experience comprises of both light and heavy rail applications, including those that feature intermodal freight facilities, switching and marshalling yards, and industrial sidings.  Our expertise in bridge and related structures includes inspection, widening, rehabilitation, planning, and final design and extends to bridge fendering, vessel collision, and modeling for bridge scour. Wind Power ---------- LNG Facilities -------------- Moffatt & Nichol’s key attribute in the planning and design of LNG terminals is our capability to integrate all of the critical disciplines in-house, thereby facilitating trade-off studies and development of the most cost-effective and reliable marine facilities. The firm offers in-depth analysis and design of marine structures, including time-history seismic analysis. We offer clients access to expertise specific to LNG and Liquid Bulk import and receiving marine terminals such as site evaluation including transformation of remote meteorological-oceanographic (met-ocean) data to the site, to establish water levels, wave heights, as well as hydrodynamic modeling of coastal processes to establish likelihood of scour or sedimentation, and to facilitate trade-off studies of dredging versus trestle length. Moffatt & Nichol’s capabilities are further enhanced by providing fast-time simulations of tanker maneuvers and the modeling of a variety of potential tankers to establish an optimum number and layout of breasting and mooring dolphins. Probabilistic simulations of tanker and tug activities in various arrival, transfer, and departure activities along with dynamic time-history analysis of the vessel at berth to determine the probability of downtime, and the necessity for a breakwater; and to establish line loads and forces on dolphins. Wind Wave Movement Analysis --------------------------- Moffatt & Nichol numerical models enable analysis of parameters vital to understanding the behaviour of coastal, watershed, riverine, and tidal environments. We routinely apply models to establish boundary conditions, characterize existing systems, and predict future parameters based on proposed system modifications. Our wind and wave hindcast models simulate the effects shoaling, refraction, diffraction and wave propagation over complex bathymetries and provide statistical return period analysis. Hydrological models can simulate the surface runoff response of a river basin, and the hydrodynamic circulation models can calculate water surface elevations and velocities in a waterway system. The sedimentation models can simulate the sedimentation patterns and transport processes in a river and estuary and the convective diffusion programs model the spreading of physical properties impacting water quality (pollutants, salinity, heat, etc.). Moffatt & Nichol complements our services to include coastal data field collection as a value-added service to our other civil and coastal engineering capabilities. The ability to design and implement field data measurement programs greatly complements our numerical modelling capabilities since the quality of these models is controlled to a great extent by our ability to calibrate and verify their effectiveness through comparison with prototype field measurements. Specific oceanographic parameter measurement covered by our instrumentation includes waves (directional and non-directional), currents (including acoustic Doppler current profilers), water levels, water quality, suspended sediment, and wind.
