With a focus on continuous improvement, Maher Terminalsโ objective for its optimization project was to develop a plan that would allow the terminal owner-operator to implement improvements in capacity, process, and infrastructure ahead of demand.
Maher Terminals engaged Moffatt & Nichol to support the project through planning exercises, including dynamic discrete-event simulation
The maximum project was defined to ensure that the recommended implementation was in line with the overall business objectives. Terminal operational parameters, estimated capacities, access points, constraints, and other features were identified that defined an optimal terminal layout to develop a site layout plan that met Maherโs business objectives.
Moffatt & Nichol developed a balanced terminal layout, to assist in optimizing Maherโs equipment requirements. An analysis of terminal gate, traffic circulation, and storage and handling capacities was also performed. In addition, specific equipment storage arrangements were analyzed. The FlexTerm simulation models and the training were provided as deliverables to allow further scenario evaluation and optimization by Maher.
Moffatt & Nicholโs follow-on work comprised delivery of a FlexTerm emulation, allowing the client to test terminal operating system configuration changes and upgrades as part of the continuous improvement plan.
